I do as much extra publicity for World AIDS Day and the HIV service organizations as I can, every day of the year, in the course of my job, writing the Hollywood News Calendar. But yeah, this day is special.
Here's a thing to do today:
In honor of the upcoming World AIDS Day on Dec 1st, Bristol Myers Squibb will donate $1 for every person who goes to their web site and lights a candle (simply clicks) to fight AIDS, up to a max of $100,000.
I've never been particularly political, but a couple of years ago, I found my cause in AIDS Awareness. I participate in the annual AIDS Walk hosted by the local AIDS Network -- this past year, I get a group from my church to walk with me as a team, including one teammember in a wheelchair.
There's an AIDS vigil at my cathedral tonight, but I have to work, *sigh*. I'll be there in spirit, though ... and I'll be wearing my red AIDS bracelet as usual. If anyone asks about it, I'll definitely give them an education. ;]
