Apologies to everybody who's friended [livejournal.com profile] itom_songs and [livejournal.com profile] tomdoespolitics and just got blasted. I switched to The New And Improved Blogger this morning, and it's apparently seen fit to republish everything from scratch. I have got to go to a new service. Any suggestions? Or tech help on just launching it myself from TSO? I'm still in the OMGWTFBBQ stages on RSS.

Update: Blogger says:
Switching from current Blogger to the new Blogger in beta will cause your most recently updated 25 posts to appear as new in feed aggregators. Update (11/11): We have solved this. Unfortunately, the fix will cause all blogs currently on the new version of Blogger to appear as new in feed aggregators. We apologize for this one-time annoyance. — latest update on Saturday, November 11, 2006
What.

The.

Fuck.

A little public humiliation to go with your inept hackery? Why, thank you, Blogger code monkeys!

Yeah, we just had to deal with this earlier this week with Neil Gaiman's feed. I've just gotten to the point where I go "Oh, there goes blogger again" and ignore it. It's certainly no reflect on -you-.

Precisely one good thing is guaranteed to come of it: I've been working on my first song for The FuMP, and I wasn't happy with the way it was going... but, thanks to this noise, it abruptly has shifted focus, and I think it'll work just fine now.

Yay, that lemonade sure tastes great!

What is your policy about new music for The FuMP? Will you be putting up songs previously published on iTom or elsewhere, or is it strictly new work? Not that I mind either way, just curious.

The goal is new or new-ish music. For instance, Luke's putting up a brand-new version of an old fave tomorrow, and Rob is going to post something fairly new but not much distributed yet. My own policy is to do new stuff. I was going to post the remix of "Alternate Universe Lost & Found" (which should be ready today or tomorrow, along with one or two other goodies), but I don't think I will. Seems like cheating, somehow.

That said, we've already discussed, for instance, posting a track from a just-released album. The FuMP is tailor-made for such cross-promotion.

Not that I disagree, but I already know my head's going to hurt from the multiple-copies issue...I guess that's the price I pay for being a completist, eh?

Well, I'm pretty sure we'll all make it a point to say "This is from such-and-such forthcoming album". We don't want everyone confused.

Confusion isn't my problem, it'll just be that I'll have extra copies, should I delete one from my mp3 library?

What I'll probably end up doing is just sighing, bowing to the inevitable, and keeping both files...*grin*

I hear very good things about WordPress, which would give you control over the whole shebang. Here are two comparison charts of blogging software; more are available online, as well.

Good luck!

Poor Tom! We roll our eyes at Blogger, not the blogger. If you see what I mean ... ;]

We regret to inform you that those in charge of doing the sacking, have just been sacked.

I wondered what had happened, as I too noted it with Gaiman, but figure it had to be some weird glitch in the Matrix.

It screwed up Eschaton, Atrios' political blog, for almost a whole day.

Wait...

Originally, it just coughed up the most recent 25 posts.

They fixed it...but it the fix would cause those on the new Blogger to have EVERYTHING reposted?

25 bad, 26+ fixed?

That's...crazy.

*hangs head and sighs*

Actually, I think it is just the most recent 25 posts... but apparently it's the most recent 25 I've made on Blogger overall. Which is a blessing, when you think of it, 'cause otherwise between iTom and Mandate My Ass it would've coughed up about 200.

Unbelievable hackery.

Ouch. Thanks for the warning; I've been pondering whether to switch the Pirate Guys' blog over to NewBlogger, and was unaware of that bug. Hmmmm ... I wonder what would happen if I went in via OldBlogger, switched off the feed option, made the transition and then launched a new feed? I may try it with one of the less ... wordy ... blogs I manage, first.

The weird thing is that it spat back the various Blogger posts out of order. *shrugs*

It's irritating, but don't stress out over it. We know it's not your fault, it's Blogger being silly.

Like I noted over at the itom comments, no biggie - I get at least 40+ repeats of HardOCP.com posts EVERY FRICKIN' DAY! :)
