Yow. Scott "Bam Bam" Bigelow, a major wrestling star of the 1980s and 1990s, was found dead yesterday in his Florida home. Dude was only 45.

Hal and I were big fans of his. I have never seen another 400-pounder who could do dropkicks and cartwheels, let alone really good ones. He's the guy who had the main event against Lawrence Taylor at Wrestlemania XI, and in an early ECW match threw Spike Dudley into the third row like a lawn dart. He had a couple of the most brutal matches imaginable with Taz (including one where they went through the ring and another where they went through the metal catwalk to the ring), and he made Rob Van Dam a star when RVD beat him for the ECW TV title.

I have a notice on my LJ also...BAM BAM is one of the guys who I remember most when I was a young wrestling fan! Had great matches and a huge amount of ring presence. And how do you forget a 400 pound, well over 6 foot guy who is bald and has flames tattooed on his head! He will be missed by long time fans everywhere...

I didn:t realize Bam _Bam was that relatively young still. I figured he was a touch years older, over the 50 mark. sad to be sure, bam bam was certainly an entertaining star and one of my sentimental undercard favorites. even though I knew the whole wrestlemania/lt thing was going to go down with a loss, I was still rooting in bigelow:s corner.

that:s a real shame. sorry to hear of his passing.

I thought Bam Bam died a few years ago due to untreated internal injuries received while wrestling (the actual injurie were undetected until an autopsy was done). Now I wonder which wrestler I am thinking of. I am sorry to hear Bam Bam died, and saddened that things are being treated as a crime scene. I will have to follow this story to hear what happened to him.

Well, I can't say this was unexpected. The guy had a bad cocaine habit.

Still, it's a shame. Bam-Bam was one helluva worker. He'll be missed.

Yet another guy gone too soon, too young. He had problems with Oxycotin and was in a severe motorcycle accident two years ago, but he was always a good worker and definitely one of the most agile big men ever.

The one Bam Bam moment I will always remember is the ECW "Living
Dangerously" PPV from his hometown of Asbury Park, facing Taz for the FTW title. Taz had the Tazmission on and Bam Bam ended up falling backwards and the two of them went through the ring. That was a moment to remember...

It's just weird that the other day I was watching the DVD "Heroes of World Class" (an excellent documentary about the Von Erichs and World Class Championship Wrestling). One of the things that really strikes you is the number of people involved who have died young. And now, Bam Bam can be added to that list (wrestled under the name Crusher Yukov).

Bam Bam was in the same class of wrestlers such as Arn Anderson. When you went to the show and knew he was on the card, you were going to see a damn good match. Love him or hate him, you always got your moneys worth.
