For some reason, my regular one glitched out. I tried uploading it again, and... it glitched out. So I loaded that one. I'll probably go back to the Plugged icon, or possibly a variation of it (I've been thinking of redesigning it, but it is pretty recognizable...).

"We want John Derbyshire leading the charge."

Because we don't have to outrun the zombies, we just have to outrun Derbyshire.

But if Derbyshire's all the zombies catch, they'll starve.

"BRAINS" by Voltaire. The Grimm Adventures Of Billy and Mandy did a full blown animated music video to it where a space creature comes and begins eating people's brains. Very entertaining. I played it on an old episode of Manic Mondays.

I just have to say that I love these lines:

No matter how bloodthirsty zombies become,
They can't withstand Atrios or Kevin Drum
Of course they want brains, they don't have one iota,
Of what God gave Glenn Greenwald or David Sirota

I duly note your diligence in noting personalities and sites on both sides of the political blogosphere. =)

Just as a quibble, I'd always pronounced Dailykos with the kos rhyming with 'claws', but since it's a reference to his name 'Markos', I supposed kos rhyming with 'coast' is equally valid. And who knows, you may have met the guy, and that's what he says.

I'm genuinely not sure, although I've always interpreted it as "kohss" for precisely the reason you give. But the important thing is, I got the joke acrose across.

Makes you think

I got a little philosophical when I heard this song. Because one CAN blog, SHOULD one blog? How many blogs out there are really worth reading? My brother is part of a group blog about Libertarianism. I only post to it because it's the most reliable way I have to keep in contact with him (and to try and remind him that there's a real world out there outside of acadamica [and when a sci-fi geek feels he has to keep someone else in the real world, there's a problem]). I have a blog for my cats on caster, but only because it's cute to talk in their voices.

But really, how many blogs out there have something really important to say? This song illustrates my point. Humanity is dying a horrible death and people STILL want to blog about little things. Realistically at that point blogging has only two purposes, to let others know you're alive and to coordinate with the other people who lived (which is part of why the internet was developed in the first place). After reading Earth Abides, I realized how important it is to know there are other survivors out there.

This makes me wonder if I have anything worth blogging about. Are my opinions about religion, politics, etc and details about my personal life truly worthy of being posted for the whole world to see? (Same is true about discussion boards and if it's worth my time to go there since so many of them have devolved into flaming contests and cheap shots.)

Before I dig myself in any deeper, Tom, I'm not saying I think all blogs are frivilous. Some, like yours, serves as meeting places and informs us of news we're interested in (like when you released another cool song). Thus it has a practical purpose. I am saying that too many blogs are made out of an inflated sense of self-importance. Tech blogs, music blogs, event blogs, political blogs, etc. They're worth the computer space. But when a blog is for a specific list of people you don't really need to announce things to the world. How about we start having quality over quantity?

Oh, who's David Sirota? I know about a Mike Sirota who wrote a trilogy of fun sci-fi books in 91 and 92, but that's it.

Well, of course they're made out of an inflated sense of self-importance. :) The premise is that anyone at all gives a damn what you think. The only difference between many blogs and a diary is that a blog is on the internet. And you can't put rainbow pony stickers on it quite as easily. Upload pic, embedding code -- a little more work than smoothing the sticker with your thumb. But, otherwise, really, no difference.

What this particular thing was, was a one-shot LARP. A little group storytelling. And the joke is that humanity is blogging through its own demise. Although, if there was such an attack and infrastructure survived for any length of time, it would be vital. Not nearly as many people in the US have ham or shortwave radios as they might.

And thanks for the kind words about my blogging. I at least try to be entertaining, or outraged at the correct people, or whatever.

David Sirota (http://www.davidsirota.com/) is, in Al Franken's words, "the sexay, sexay wonk". Progressive, policy-oriented, very damn smart man.

Well since people are replying I think it's fair to say that there are those that DO give a damn what you think :) Yep, in some ways blogging is like one big editorial page. Some newspapers let you respond to online editorials blog-style. (The Des Moines Register lets you comment on almost ANY story, editorial or news.)

But knowing the song was based on a joke LARP puts a bit of a kink in my musing. I'll put off starting my own blog for now. Once I come up with a better screen name and can actually post something that I think is interesting enough for people to read on a regular basis. A SF author once said, "It is a cardinal to bore the reader." But I'll keep my cat blogs. Enough people go squeeee to keep me at it.
