The first (and I hope only) cover. I'm gonna make it the bonus track on iTom 4.0, but you can always download the lo-res version for free. I theoretically could've had it done Friday, the actual anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, but I really wasn't feeling good, and I wanted it to be done right, and I think it was worth the extra time.

Please excuse the whining I'm about to indulge myself in.

I've been sick for most of the past week and a half, and I'm trying to finish up several things at once -- commission jobs, HTML interfaces for iTom 2.0 and 3.0, songs for iTom and The FuMP, Dragon*Con stuff, Real Life Stuff, Big Book is on the back burner again (but not for long), other stuff, and then the frickin' HP book came out....

I'm tired. And I'm behind on a bunch of stuff. And I promise I'll catch up. But I've made a promise to myself that, after Dragon*Con, I'm going to take a real rest. At least a week doing nothing. No music, no web stuff. I might go find a pool.

How are you doing today?

Tis not whining in any way...it's better to vent/rage/what-have-you about it. And I think we all understand about that everything-at-once feeling. But you'll make it, and oh, won't that pool feel nice? :-)

I'm just having a typical Monday, trying to get things tied up and finished...this coming weekend is the last free weekend I have until October 12-13. No joke.

I know the feeling. I've got cons five of the next six weekends, and then six more cons before Thanksgiving.

Oh, sweet yes. Tom Smith doing "Hope Eyrie." Dude, you just made my week.

(Except I don't know what number to label it as in my collection. 14, because it'll be the bonus track on the 13-standard-song iTom 4.0 collection?)

Precisely. If you'll notice, the file itself is numbered 52a, to go after 52, whatever Track 13 turns out to be.

Damn, I've written a lot of songs this year, haven't I? :)

I saw the 52a, but wanted to be sure.

Indeed. No wonder you're not feeling well.

Coulton took a break when he'd finished a year of Thing A Week...I don't think anyone would begrudge you throttling back your pace a bit when iTom 4.0 finishes, in order to get some stuff off your plate, clear your back burners, et cetera.

(Can't wait for D*C. Looking forward to seeing you there.)

I will do precisely that, but I've got a two-part plan. First, I'll still have new songs, just every two or three weeks or so rather than every week.

Until the beginning of the year.

Heh heh heh.

Heh heh heh.

Tom Smith, Helen Narbon the elder. Sometimes I get 'em mixed up.

(Though Tom is the Girl Genius writer; [livejournal.com profile] cadhla has been writing the Narbonic filks, as I recall.)

Tom, that song always, always, gives me chills and gooseflesh, and often makes me cry (it shares those characteristics with "Fire in the Sky" and "Ballad of Apollo 13").

You do it justice.

Thanks very much, m'dear. Yeah, it took a few takes to get through some of those lines. If it doesn't affect the singer, why should it affect anybody else?

And a question, if you don't mind -- it sounded like multiple voices in some places. Were they all you, multi-tracked?

Yep. Actually, a total of six tracks, four of which were choruses of four of me (eight singing the chorus, eight going "ooooh, aaaah"). I've got to tweak it -- it still sounds a bit mechanical -- but it's one of the coolest features of Band In A Box.

And separately, I hope you feel better soon. Please do take some time to rest as soon as you can.

Hmm… What license is the file released under? There's even no 192kbps version…

This one's different. It's "copyright 1975 by Leslie Fish, copyright assigned to Random Factors, used with permission", and I should amend that to say, "All rights reserved". I'm paying Leslie royalties for this one. And, there will be a 192 Kbps version with the iTom 4.0 archive.

Well, since we're dancing around it, I'll come right to it. If you want to make a fan video... I don't have a problem. A few exist based on other versions, most notably one to Julia Ecklar singing it.

The rights holder, John Creasey of Random Factors, indicated to me that if it was only for free download he didn't have a problem with it, but if it was going on an album I'd have to pay royalties. As I wanted to put it on iTom 4.0, that's what I'm doing. You should e-mail him before doing anything with it.

At least he responds quickly on royalty payments. I sent him money (for Leslie) on 2 songs I am using on a CD that is last minute delayed... (Annoying when you find out that you can't easily pay the royalties via HFA. Likely solution - drop the songs from the album.)

At least John was easy to find (Frank Hayes took a little work to contact.)

And THANK YOU for covering that song. I am definitely passing word on it to a few pro-space fans.

Harold
