At some point I'm going to have to get The Orange Box. I want to play Half-Life 2, and I especially want to play Portal... which, as you very well may know by now, has, as a reward for completing the game, a song by Jonathan Coulton.

There have already been numerous videos, covers, and parodies of this song -- Rob did one for The FuMP, and I've written one myself, which may or may not see the light of day, gotta tweak it some methinks -- but now there's a new take, by cartoonist and animator Eric Schwartz, who's been crankin' out fantastic stuff for a long time now.

On his trusty Amiga.

Good animation! How come Jonathan Coulton has all of the visual-arts fans? It's not fair!

Portal rocks.

I haven't made it past the last puzzle yet so no Coulton song for me. Curse my poor manual dexterity!

Fun song. The animation reminds me of the sort of illustration you used to get in elementary books on computing (only, you know, without the guns). Thanks.

Right now, they've broken up the Orange Box so you can pick up Portal for $20 at the stores. I bought mine through Steam after playing the first 4 levels in a promo by Nvidia.

While I wouldn't say that Portal is not worth 20$, the orange box just has so much more value than it alone. The whole orange box is just 50$. I have said before that that price would be enough for portal alone, but then you also get HL2 and both episodes, and the amazingly well done Team Fortress 2.

The Half Life games are nifty, but Portal is frickin' genius. The game mechanic is cool, and the color/narration... my god, I haven't laughed so hard at a game since the Monkey Island games. Dark humor, but holy crap I laughed myself into tears.

Eric Schwartz. I haven't heard that name -- or seen him -- in a long time. Thank you for the link to his website!

Sweet Christ, Eric... Why'd you have to throw it all away?

Too bad the 45 is dead. I could so see one that pairs this with "Dead Again".

Portal is so overplayed it will perhaps end up on Top 40 radio and it has that pretty high voice that is so annoying that I wrote parody:

It's sounds like a pop song

I'm making a note here They should give it a rest

It's hard to understate my reaction

A few too many videos

Are posted up at youtube by Jonathan Coulton fans

taking a pretty good song

And beating it to death

But there's no sense crying over repetition

You've just got to understand other people's condition

They don't have any originality

They just like to play the same song in a similar same key

They are a people

Not really alive}

but uncleclumpy's was better see http://unclelumpy.livejournal.com/282889.html

so I'm not even promoting my parody about.

So I hope you parody is alot better Rob Balder's because that one makes me just as annoyed as portal though I do like some of Rob Balder's other songs especially Always a Goth Chick but actaully I might have like Portal at first but everyone just keeps playing it.

Here is another parody maybe

This was a fast one
I'm making a note here: another sell out
It's hard to over state my disappointment
Scifi has entered pop culture
We do what we want to make a buck
So we can have a nice car
Taking advantage of people before their dead

Actually I'm not sure what I'm talking about except I really hate the song so much that sometime later I hope Weird Al Yankovic writes something really funny to it or maybe I will yet write something to it myself.

I'm going to have to get Portal at some point myself. I'm not normally a fan of first person perspective games but I might be willing to give this one a go.

Plus Jonathan Coulton's got some really good songs. I was impressed with Still Alive, though my favorite so far is Code Monkey.
