I used to make silly movies like this when I was a kid (silent, in B&W, using a camera we found in a junk yard, but we compensated with extra silliness).
I wish there was a local group I could join who wants to make silly videos like this. All I can find are people who want to make serious, ponderous and angsty videos. The world needs more silly.
I've tried to find/form a group a few times. One got no responses, another got a few people who only wanted to do depressing, angsty stuff and believed humor was a sign of failure, and the third only attracted a few people who went to great lengths to convince me that I couldn't do anything without a minimum budget of $75,000.
This last decade and a half has been brutal for me. First the massive burnout, then whenever I try to do something fun and creative I either get told "no, you can't do that," or nobody shows up, or the only people who are even slightly interested live in distant states/countries. *sigh*
I live in Washington, just south of Seattle. I'm sure there's silly people here, but I never meet them. I can't even get a game of Munchkin going, which shows you how silly-deprived things are ;-)
Thanks for the info! I'll try to get to Foolscap next week.
When I first moved here, my job had me working nights and weekends, so I completely missed out on the cons. Then I was unemployed, then got another job working weekends. So I'm woefully ignorant of the convention scene around this area.
I'm glad the info is timely. The resident librarian is carbonelle, a major Lois McMaster Bujold fan. Esther Friesner is always a hoot. I'm told the con is small [about 100 or so], but very friendly & lots of fun.
Have you put vixyish on your f-list yet? She is extremely talented, Pegasus-nominated, & frequently has gigs in the Seattle area.
If you like music at all, you should definitely come to Conflikt next January.
Word. ConFlikt wanted me to be GOH in January, but I couldn't make it work with being at ChattaCon the previous weekend and driving all the way up there. Fortunately, they apparently have cadhla as their GOH now, so I think they get the better deal. ;) And the Seattle/Portland folks (OryCon, y'know) are just a swell bunch.
