And a good deal more coherent, as well. Many kudos to the irreplaceable Jack Cafferty:

That was horrifying. I don't think Reagan was ever that incoherent while in office, and that's saying something.

She's... I guess she's a trained parrot. Chosen for her plumage, and being taught words and phrases by her campaign handlers. They train her to regurgitate those phrases on command, but it's clear that she has no idea what any of it means, nor how one idea connects to the next.

I'm so glad that journalists are starting to have spines again - and enough to rebuke those still spineless among them.

I sincerely think that, during those extended periods when she was looking down at her lap, she was consulting cue cards. Every time she looked up again, she started in with talking points in their shortest forms. And, if she was, Couric and CBS should fuckin' say so.

They're scared of the label "liberal media". They want to be unbiased, so they feel like they have to accept whatever crap they're handed without making the observation that it's crap.

I love the look on Katie's face, though. "You're not answering my question, you trained baboon..."

Yes, I add as an aside, Jack Cafferty is irreplaceable. The interchangeable part that replaced him when he was let go by the NYC station he'd worked at for a decade proves that. I've always been glad Cafferty moved up to a national stage as a happy unintended consequence.

Even some of the conservatives are bailin' on Palin:

Kathleen Parker, National Review Online (http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MDZiMDhjYTU1NmI5Y2MwZjg2MWNiMWMyYTUxZDkwNTE=):
Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Babbling Palin ‘makes George Bush sound like Cicero’ (http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/uselection,0,babbling-palin-makes-george-bush-sound-like-cicero,46939)
Dan McLaughlin, a blogger at the influential Red State conservative website, admits "gnashing my teeth" while watching Palin. Referring to the first part of the Couric interview, McLaughlin laments that Palin was unable to name any examples of McCain pushing for more financial regulation in his 26 years as a senator. "He's built an extensive track record of pushing for more regulation,” he writes. “It's not that hard a question".

Even Rod Dreher, a religious-conservative blogger who frequently appears on Fox News and was as recently as last week a Palin supporter, says the Alaskan Governor "was mediocre". Dreher says he felt "embarrassed" listening to Palin "regurgitating talking points mechanically, not thinking. [She’s] just babbling. She makes George W. Bush sound like Cicero."
