Tornadoes in New England. Please, everybody, take cover. And sound off after so we know you're okay.

ETA: Matt Noyes at NECN.com is doing yeoman work, keeping track of the storm. Amazing.

Heard from one of my friends who said it passed across the street from his office and caved in a garage while he watched.

He's fine, though he said he could kick himself for forgetting his phone (with camera) at home today...

So far, here at the Big Blue House in north Milford, MA, there has been lots of RAIN and THUNDER, but no hail or wind (so far) and I think the storm has passed over to the south as the thunder is further away... for the most part.

They're expecting the big parts to hit Milford in about 10 minutes...

Funny how nobody goes out of their way to laugh at Al Gore during times like this...

So far the tornados are in western and central MA, I am in eastern MA (about 30 miles north of Boston). The two so far were no where near me, the third may head my way, don't know yet. Hopefully that will be it.

Just called my sister who lives outside of Worster. She's okay. I saw the footage on MSNBC. Absolutely incredible.

I'm not in the NE at all... and we never get this stuff.
Except when we do. They had 3 tornadic cells on Doppler just in my county this afternoon. Across a larger band, Central CA had multiple counties with tornado warnings, lots of heavy downpour rain, hail, and alarming shear-force winds, people got pix of a couple of funnels that didn't touch down. It's all roaring off like an express train NE into the Sierra Nevada mountains, where it's becoming hail and snow.
Yeah, just try to tell me global climate instability is a complete myth. And how about all those victims who survived these last few major storms back in your necks of woods?

As Naga said, Tornados were spotted here in California, believe it or not. Every half decade or so we hear about a funnel cloud, but today we had a couple touch down briefly in the Central Valley (I'm in the Sierra foothills, east of there).

This is like hearing about Earthquakes in the midwest. It. just. doesn't. happen. Add that to this being the wettest spring in memory and I've lived here all my life... and I'm starting to get a more than academic impression of climate change.

The Bear Valley ski resort live cams showed whiteout conditions at sunset, and this page of local live cams shows tons of snow. Comments on the bottom of the page will show how weird this all is for us. http://www.ourbv.com/index.cgi/Webcams

Normal for this part of the country is a moderately wet winter, with grass sprouting in January, fully green by Feburary, Spring flowers in late March / early April. By mid May the grass is browning, and the high country snow is melted by June amid mutters about drought. So Bear Valley up to it's ears in the white stuff on June 1 is not in any way normal.

Apparently I left Springfield (MA) about 10-15 minutes before it touched down. Had no idea, thought everything was fine until I started getting emails from co-workers still at the office.

Out in Stoughton we had lots of rain, very impressive thunder & lightning and a little hail (I think), and a slight power flicker. Nothing too bad, but I really feel for the people out in Western MA. :(

Allen called me the other day to let me know everyone is all right. They were caught in a huge thunderstorm while at Mayfaire in Marshall, and took refuge in the women's restroom (the only concrete structure around).

At home in Battle Creek, they were without power for a couple of days, but it's back now, and there's no damage to the house. A block away, there were two trees in the street, and one that landed on a house.

I didn't hear about this until this morning. The tornado that hit Springfield? Springfield is super-close to my hometown of Holyoke, where my elderly father and aunt live. Apparently, the tornado started to make a beeline for Holyoke... and then changed course at the last minute.

I'm sorry about the deaths and damage in Springfield, but may I just say on a personal level, PHEW.
