First time since early yesterday afternoon that I have access to my LJ... and now DreamWidth isn't taking my calls.

That's it. I'm switching to WordPress. Dunno exactly when, but if I get a DDoS on my site, at least I know BlueHost will kick somebody's ass over it.

And how's your internet week going?

I just set up a Tumblr account yesterday. It has blogging and it has followers. I don't know yet if I'll use it.

(One good sign was: when I sent them a bug report about a minor problem with special characters in tags, a human being who understood got back to me and said he'd forward the suggestion to development.)

According to the maintenance community at DW, the problem is a memory leak; server processes are running out of memory too quickly. They're working on it.

I'd wager it's probably all the people retroactively cross-posting their LJ archives to it...

Import from LJ is not a good idea right now. give it a week.

Wordpress

I've enjoyed Wordpress, and so far (knock on wood) haven't had a crash. In fact, I like it so much, I'm putting together a class on it for a Writing Con next year. If you run into trouble I'd love to hear about it so I can put that problem in the FAQ ~ think of it as reverse Tech support for Dad. ;>

I'm a bit sad at all the people moving to other sites -- mostly because I won't be following them when they scatter all over the net, secondly because it means the DDoS attackers win :/ (Meanwhile, I do enjoy Google+ where a lot of LJ'ers seem to have moved already)

And for those of us who haven't gotten the golden Google+ invite in our candy bars we can only press our noses up to the "Members Only" glass doors and ask "What's it like in there for LJ'ers?"

I have to agree. I don't follow many blogs and if they switched URLs I may follow them. It depends on if I need to register with ANOTHER site to comment.

Forgive me, Tom, but I'll believe it when I see it. PZ Myers said he's going to move away from ScienceBlogs weeks ago and he hasn't.

I joined up with LJ to comment here. If you move, I'll have no reason to continue blogging on LJ. Well apart from answering the guy who responded to my review of a local Chinese restaurant.

I wonder what the filk community will do.

ummm the page isn't refreshing as it should. I had to do it manually. Whether it's LJ or my ISP's fault, I'm not sure. I've had problems going to PZ's blog since it seems to hang on skeptichic's ads, but I can go to her site without any problem. I hope it's just a quirk and not someone at my ISP deciding that because they can slowdown data transmission from sites they don't like doesn't mean they should.

Let me know where you end up going, Tom and I'll add your blog to my list.

I had a week or so where I basically couldn't reach LJ at all. It seems to be better now. I'm planning to continue what I'm doing (crossposting from Dreamwidth.) I have a G+ account but figure that when they notice my last name is "Sittingstill" they will ban me; it's just a matter of time. And given where I live, if I'm forced to use my Real Name (TM) my blog will be all canoeing all the time, because there's not much else I can safely talk about.

Yeah, I just created my own WordPress account, too. They seem to support the HTML stuff I like to do with my posts. Now all I need to do is wait until I can use their import tool to scrape all my stuff, there, from LJ.

Hi Tom,

I've sent you back the questionaire and a few more emails and just wondering how things are going. Reading this i'm wondering if maybe you havent been able to access email either. I know things have been rough but i'm hoping some silly fun with the creative process can help lift your spirits! :) I'm really looking forward to hearing from you.

is this a better way to contact you than email? or would FB be better? i'm happy to utilize whatever media you prefer! I'm just excited!!!

Hoping to hear from you very soon!!

Look for a tool called JournalPress that will crosspost from Wordpress to both LJ and DW . . . . it's a great help.
