Sorry I wasn't up to mentioning 300 and Babylon 5: The Lost Tales last week. Got 'em both, highly recommend 'em both.

But today we've got some absolute necessities.

(No, not I Think I Love My Wife. What a stupid premise. And what the hell were they thinking, casting Gina Torres as his wife? Chris Rock, you think you love that woman!? Man, you don't even deserve that woman.)

Today's Goodies That You Must Have might include The Tick Vs. Season Two, Darkwing Duck Vol. 2, and possibly TMNT. Maybe one of the rereleased Elvis movies. Probably the Film Crew's second offering, Killers From Space.

But absolutely you have to have Flash Gordon: Saviour Of The Universe Edition and The Muppet Show: Season Two.

(And the über-comic-geeks among us might want to do the double-pre-order thing at Amazon, where you can get Superman: Doomsday (released Sept. 18) and Dr. Strange: The Sorceror Supreme (released next Tuesday) for $28.98.

Anything on your DVD list we should know about?

Here. Seriously, give it a look -- it really does go to the heart of the real issues. By [livejournal.com profile] bubble_blunder, by way of [livejournal.com profile] dbcooper, by way of [livejournal.com profile] kayshapero.

I have to remember that. I have to remember that it is really really great that, by and large, BushCo not withstanding, we have free speech, free assembly, and the right to protest in this country.

And that means putting up with fucking useless evil shithead fucktard wastes of biomass like Fred Phelps.

Didn't have a wrap-up for Archon/TuckerCon/NASFiC, so here we go.

First, many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] mofilker and his wife Jamie, who went way above and beyond the call trying to make everything better for the musicians.

And many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] huskiebear, who also went way above and beyond the call in a lot of ways helping me out this weekend in particular.

And it was fantastic actually getting the chance to hang out for awhile with [livejournal.com profile] min0taur and Sally and [livejournal.com profile] tollers and [livejournal.com profile] harperjen and [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium (and I briefly met her husband Wesley and didn't even know it) and [livejournal.com profile] gorgeousgary and [livejournal.com profile] the_sheryl and [livejournal.com profile] lemmospice [livejournal.com profile] lemmozine and [livejournal.com profile] shsilver. And [livejournal.com profile] lukeski and [livejournal.com profile] pixelene were there, and Ken, and [livejournal.com profile] filkferengi and [livejournal.com profile] hlynna and [livejournal.com profile] popefelix and [livejournal.com profile] janmagic and [livejournal.com profile] singlemaltsilk and [livejournal.com profile] starcat_jewel and I can't even remember who all else. I only saw Sally Kobee and Barb Van Tilburg briefly, and that's my fault for not getting to the dealer's room.

It was a working con, so I ended up not going to the open filk at all (I was in one hotel, the filk was in another hotel, and the con was mostly in the Gateway Center, aiee). I heard from Gary and Sheryl that it was pretty good, mostly. I thought my concert sets went well enough, and it was really great to hear everybody else as well. Wild Mercy seemed especially crisp Saturday, and Mary Crowell impressed the heck out of us -- as I mentioned in an earlier post, I really hadn't heard her do her stuff, and we happily traded CDs.

A few rough spots, nothing worth really going into. Except... con programming people? Don't put programming after noon on Sunday. Or at all on Sunday. Seriously. Not more than a few people will be there. Most people are checking out, saying goodbye, and making those last few purchases, and all you're doing is making the panelists wait a few hours before going home. This has been My Opinion On The Matter™, and you don't have to listen. Thank you.

Anyway, a pretty good time had by all, methinks.
