Officially, it's tonight, at 6:38 p.m. EST. It'll take a few months for us to notice the days grow longer... but they will.

And, if you missed it, here's a fantastic time-lapse video of the eclipse this morning --

Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse from William Castleman on Vimeo.

Thank you for posting the link - it was beautiful!! And I've truly been feeling at a loss having missed it. Now, somehow, I'm believing far more in the return of more sun and warmth :).

I dragged myself out of bed just before totality local time. The cloud cover was thin enough that I could see the moon until the last sliver, but when the shadow completely covered it, it was too faint to be seen through the clouds. Still, I would have been annoyed with myself if I'd slept through it.

Thanks again for your announcement yesterday.

I had seen that on the TOR website, I think - still lovely at winter solstice.

So it will technically be winter now and the days will get longer. Hooray!

I kept track of the time change one year...we'll get about 3 minutes more sun each day...but because the sun angle is so low, it's still VERY cold.

We were completly cloud-covered for the entire event, so thank you for that.

It's been rainy, cloudy and overcast here in San Fran...and yet it cleared up on Monday night, just long enough for lots of us to enjoy the full length of the eclipse. It's a Solstice miracle.

I'd love to see it but all I'm getting is a still of the moon at totality. Do you have to join vimeo to see things? Or has someone found a way to hook quantserve to a video? It's the only thing noscript is blocking.
