Nausea has given way to hilarity as pseudo-intellectual, scandal-plagued hypocrite, and failed politician Newt Gingrich apparently really believes he has a shot at becoming President of these United States.

The most recent example of the true comic genius of the Gingrich campaign is this official press release, which truly could not be appreciated by us lesser mortals until Stephen Colbert had it read dramatically by John Lithgow.

ETA: Link updated. But that doesn't seem to work either. As soon as I have functional video I can link to, it'll be here.

ETA2: Let's try this:

Definitely not -- it's a treasure. The video embed above should work.

During the workday I read on a verizon smartphone. The original link had YouTube saying "video not playable in your country", the embeded clip won't work either so I ended up going to Youtube and searching for "Gingrich Colbert" (without quotes) and then clicking on the pick of Lithgow

I'd read it, but hadn't registered how AMAZINGLY projective that first paragraph is.

Also, I wonder if Colbert's had Hugh Jackman on since he put up the shield, and if Wolvie tried to harm it :-) [g,d,rvvvvf]

That would be so cool it it wasn't trying to kill us.

Oh. Never mind. It's not trying to kill us -- it's trying to kill Newt's ego, which you couldn't do with silver bullets and a Kryptonite stake through the heart. Carry on, then....

The hits keep coming (http://gawker.com/5803712/puny-media-minds-cant-comprehend-the-gingrich-campaigns-brilliance):

"It's going to take a while for the news media to realize that you're covering something that happens once or twice in a century, a genuine grass-roots campaign of very big ideas," said Gingrich. "I expect it to take a while for it to sink in."

Apparently Newt is unfazed by the cocktail party death sheep from hell emptying their clips at him.

If I wrote a press release like that, I would be fired. Possibly from a cannon.

While I know better than to assume that Newt is a buffoon with no chance of getting elected - people used to think that of Reagan, I believe - for now I just shake my head and smile at all the fodder Colbert and Stewart can gather.

Reagan was a buffoon. But he was a showman. And that counted for a lot. (As did George Will's pilfering of Jimmy Carter's debate playbook.) And, bluntly, at that time in his career he wasn't anywhere near the pompous, fake-ass hypocrite, liar, and intellectual dullard that Newt is. And by far the stupidest thing Newt has done is the same thing a lot of the Repubs have done -- they have forgotten that their own words can, will, and do come back to bite them.

Go figure. Gingrich is in.

Daniels is out.

I think that we have to give some people more credit for intelligence than I'd expect. Although I wonder about integrity in light of the abandonment of the cultural truce.

If you think this is bad...
