World Steam Expo So Far
May. 28th, 2011 09:05 pmGot here early afternoon; lots of friendly folks, including several I knew, helped me find where I was going and get there without too much hassle. God, I've gotta work on my endurance this summer -- I have none. Matt and Rob were especially wonderful, and Rob stuck with me all afternoon to help out with stuff.
The concert went very well, methinks -- a lot of my basic songs, an appreciative crowd, a bunch of folks who hadn't heard me before, decent sales. After that I went down to the Dealer's Room and hung out at my table with Rob and Leslie, who arrived during my set.
We spent a lot of time admiring the costumes. There are a couple thousand people here, and the majority of them are cosplaying. Nothing outright bad, and far more than the average are very good to fantastic. Multiple guys with mechanical flying gear on their backs; many Proper English Gentlemen and Ladies; a goodly number of Western steam variants. A lot of incredibly gorgeous ladies in corsets and other accoutrements. Just wow.
Concert tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. After that, I'll hang out in the Dealer's Room till 6:00. If you're there, come on by -- I'll have my guitar. ;)
And how's your weekend so far?

Date: 2011-05-29 06:07 am (UTC)I opted to not attend cons in favor of getting stuff done for Contata. (1 CD is about 1/2 done, the other is still compiling.)
Had a BBQ with family this afternoon.

Date: 2011-05-29 07:16 am (UTC)Wiscon has been full of awesome music - Sooj and The Traveling Fates, Amy McFiddler and Betsy "Release the Cello!" Tinney - even Seanan sang during Catherynne Valente's book launch party (a rousing rendition of "Wicked Girls"). Seen a number of old friends, made some new ones.

Date: 2011-05-30 02:00 am (UTC)Made my chili today along with a black bean soup that turned out better than expected. It could almost be a hot dip for crackers and chips. Now I have to start preparing the marinades for the salmon I'm going to grill tomorrow.

Date: 2011-05-30 02:37 pm (UTC)There were some costumes that were amazing technically (including one Chewbacca that looked completely authentic), but my personal favorite was a burly fellow who sported a goatee, a plaid flannel shirt with the sleeves cut off, and a Centauri wig. He was Londo the Cable Guy. :)
