Got home about 10:00 p.m. last night after a long and mostly pleasant driving day. I will report on the rest of ConTata later, but short form: amazingly fun. Great time, new friends, much love for older friends, really good steak. More detail later. Today, I have to go to the store, do laundry, and -- oh yeah -- sleep. A lot.

How's your week starting out?

My week's off to a marvelous start. Fun times at InConJunction and the Zoo on Sunday, followed by small-town fireworks with friends last night. Working today... bleah... but at least it's a short week! :-)

Sounds great. Dunno if I'll make InCon next year -- a friend would like me to come back out to NY to sing on her birthday weekend -- but it's a great con, and I'm glad you guys had fun!

Glad you made it back safe. I'm feeling like crap this morning. Didn't sleep well either. Now that the holiday is over, I need to start hitting the bricks again for a new job. This is week #6 and even though I haven't gotten any rejections yet (technically), a lot of people still need to get back to me. I'm still hoping the interview I had last week will pan out.

I hear you about the job search. My contract ended last week, so I'm back to the pavement-pounding myself.

You're in Iowa right? If you were still in Chicagoland, I could pass along some tech recruiters to you. Better yet, send me a message reminding me of what city you're in and some of your specialties and I can pass it along. I won't give them your email address, but I will give you theirs if anyone bites.

That was great! Glad you got home safely, and that you tried the steak; I wasn't kidding about Ruth's Chris being good!

As to us...I need to do a post, but the neighbors had a fire over the weekend that resulted in our losing (due to firemen) our door (mostly; the lock was broken and the door was warped, but it's padlocked for now and as of earlier today [livejournal.com profile] drcpunk even has a key to said padlock), a window, power to several outlets, and the ceiling of the kitchen. So we're not able to stay at home until this stuff is repaired. OTOH, we've got a gaming con coming up this weekend starting on Wednesday night, so our inconvenience should be minimal if, as expected, they fix things up by, say, next monday. (and we do have insurance).

Eek! Glad you're safe! I hope things get fixed up quickly for you. I had a lovely time at the con. Thank you for everything!

Thanks! Mind, the fire itself happened on Saturday! Lisa and I got our panicking out early and went back into attending/working the con. So we were never in danger, and finding that the fire hadn't actually reached our place and none of our stuff was damaged was a relief.

And thank you for everything; having you and Tom worked out exactly as well as we'd hoped--and Douglas and Juliana were a -very- nice bonus!

AIEE! Good frickin' FSM. Glad you're all okay, and I hope you have the timeline right.

And, again, so many thanks to you and Merav and John and everybody else. It was a great weekend, m'friend, and I only hope I lived up to your expectations.

(And, I knew Ruth's Chris was good -- I just had never really had it in my adult life. [The one time I did was for my birthday with my mom, many years ago, too long ago to remember and too inexperienced to appreciate.] And it was, indeed, gooooood.)

[Hmm. FSM = what? Oh, right, the monster!]

I hope so too; I'm very glad we were at the con rather than at home when this happened, even if it means our door got broken.

And you -totally- lived up to our expectations -- it was a blast! [btw; Jon, not John; a pretty minor point, I admit].

I went out to Ruth's Chris twice myself (ok, not by myself; with Lisa, and the first time also with Christine and eventually Aaron) and it was lovely -- but somehow, between needing/wanting to get places [Saturday we were late for the RHMS rehersal; Sunday I just wanted to get to the Rotten Apple as we'd started dinner late] and distraction I managed to leave stuff behind both times! However, both times it was trivial to retrieve what had been lost!

I'm back at work, but shorter days this week. We're packing slowly. Moving to a new house in a couple weeks. Cheshire Moon has a smallish gig this weekend, should be fun.

By the end of yesterday, I was pretty wiped; I managed to get caught up on everything (both work and watching TV), and zonked out early.

Today, back to the grindstone of class. I got back another graded assignment, and had a solid average grade (average is good, here); it looks like I'm on pace for the program for Barbri.

And tomorrow is the Simulated 200-Question Multistate Examination. Joy.

So far, so good. The main thing I'm responsible for doing at work is now do-able, (thanks to the quarter-close) so I expect to keep busy with that. Doubly-so because we'll be down one team-member who's going on vacation next week.

I had a great time this past weekend. The bus back to DC on the 4th made good time, and Pinball hadn't thrown any wild parties while I was away. Still, I slept very deeply that night, which was needed, I think.

(and I totally agree on the steak. WOW!)

And so it begins...

The U of I Biology Library has begun the migration into the ACES Library as of today. We'll be getting between 1500 and 3000 books per day which need to be ticked off the checklist, scanned into the system, stamped, put in order, and shelved, for most of the rest of the month.

We've got BarbaraKitten (how DO you link to someone's LJ profile, anyhow?) heading the project and a bunch of good student workers, so we're in fine shape. And me being the Tech.Wizard, I managed to score a laptop with barcode scanner so we don't have to drag every book to the circulation desk to get it scanned into the system (Yay for Technology!)

(Memo to my previous self - working in a library is not just getting to read all the new books first!)

My week appears to be starting with a sore throat, which hopefully is just the result of too much singing and talking rather than oncoming Con Crud.

Also trying to chase "Surreal Estate", "Tapioca" and other earworms out of my brain. 8-)
