Yeesh. I warn you guys about a hurricane, and you have an earthquake. What, were you all running for the doors at once? Sound off so we know you're good.

I'm fine. Was an interesting moment, though. Thought my couch was collapsing. Then realized it wasn't my couch.

Then went to Twitter.

I'm fine. I was a little shaken when it happened, but it's all good now.

Just another check-mark on the bucket-list. :-)

Colorado, Indiana (At least, I heard from some people that we had one...didn't notice myself), and the East Coast. Hope anyone affected is ok, but I have to wonder who is trying to warp time and space. Did the Racnoss hiccup? Did a particle of dark matter hit? Or is the elusive Higgs-Boson laughing at us?

Never mind the ramblings of a madman. ;-)

No, no, it's my fault. The old car died suddenly & for the 1st time in my life I can immediately get another without major financial disruption -- that's gotta be a sign of the apocalypse.

Several of my local friends said the felt it. I was on my lunch break when it happened and was deep in the middle of "The Wise Man's Fear" and would likely not have noticed if the building were on fire.

No wonder the kitties are meowing more than they usually do after we get home from a trip.

Our plane was taking off from SFO about the time the earthquake hit.

Nothing in the house seems out of place or otherwise off-kilter.

de ja vu. When Loma Prieta hit, I was on a private chat server based out of University of Kentucky. When this one hit, I was on a private chat server run by... somebody from Kentucky. Only instead of hearing the news on the TV, I heard the news *from our hostess*, who'd noticed that John Scalzi had tweeted about it.

Sort of reverse de ja vu, when Loma Prieta hit, Mom called me, and of course I'd already heard about it. When this hit, I called Mom, and she had *felt* it but not realized that's what it was.

Strangeness.

I'd still rather be in earthquake territory than hurricane territory. And let's just *ban* "The Great Nebraska Sea" for the next couple weeks, that would be just tempting fate...

I'm about 20 miles south of DC. I was on the ground floor (imagine a box store converted into a cubicle farm) so I didn't really feel the tremor - it did sound like someone was trying to tear the roof off, though.

My wife was about 5 stories up - it felt to her that someone was shaking her chair. A friend of hers four stories above got to watch the file cabinets shimmy across the room.

I have a coworker who actually lives in Mineral, VA. I'll have to ask him tomorrow if there was much damage around his place

Mid-NJ (near Trenton); minor shaking (enough to freak people out who've never been in an earthquake before; less severe than the one I sat through in England a few years back) but otherwise fine. Work in a state building, which was evacuated. Fire department feared a gas leak and wanted Public Service to come check the joint out. My boss said having his workers stand around outside a building that might have a gas leak was dumb and sent us home.

I spent a good chunk of the afternoon ascertaining the safety of our East Coast employees (and as a native Californian I was commiserating with them: "Yeah, those things are scary").

Countdown to the Tea Pary blaming Obama for this (and/or gay marriage in New York) in four, three, two...

We're in the DC suburbs of Virginia about 60-75 miles from the epicenter, so it was kinda lively.

My house is on a concrete slab so no bouncy floors, but I could hear & feel the whole structure *flexing*. No damage, though.

When it hit, all 4 cats turned to stare at me & telepathically broadcast "How did you DO that!?!?!" Poor Kimba still seems worried I'm mad at him, but the others are over it.

I didn't even realize that we had an earthquake earlier, but it does explain why the recliner I was in suddenly decided to move forward, like something was pushing on it.

Heh. Not much of a wake here in NH. Just enough for me to feel like I was on rough ocean on a cruise ship. Very cool. Sadly, my office building is an old single-story warehouse that I swear bribed its way past the building inspectors. So wiring is now "funny" in the walls.

Ironically the epicenter is where we'd planned on our "halfway layover" for our drive to D*C next week. Good thing I was overridden on that choice!

I was in the street and missed my office building trying to do the shimmy. I got back and everyone was running in the other direction yelling 'earthquake!' and my first thought was that I had lied to [livejournal.com profile] pecunium when I told him we don't have earthquakes on this coast.
