The wind's going nuts out here -- sustained around 30 mph, gusting past 40 mph. And it's getting colder tonight. We have the real possibility of some snow... not much, but enough to say, "Yep, it snowed."

The hip is still bugging me, but tonight I take the flexeril and see what that does for it. I've got help getting the van loaded for Friday, and, assuming all goes well between now and then, I should be at WindyCon sometime Friday afternoon. Love the Westin Lombard. Big beautiful hotel, right next to a damn Target. Makes things much easier.

But I am not ready for snow. Not emotionally. Probably not physically.

How 'bout you?

I saw your post on the Latest page.

Honestly, I'd prefer snow over rain. I am SO sick of the rain we've had this year (more than double our usual) and on Friday we're supposed to get another 90mm.

Having been through the Pre-Halloween Surprise Buttsnow in the Northeast, I will be perfectly happy if it doesn't snow again until January, and not much then either.

Not ready for snow either, but according to the weather channel the Lombard area is not in for any snow between now and end of Sunday.

I hope you feel better Tom. Looking forward to seeing you again!

Had more than enough snow for the winter already, thanks.

Glad I don't live in Nome, Alaska, though. They're talking about the current storm up there as "possibly historic".

Saw that. Very worrisome, actually -- at least one forecaster said something to the effect of, "When a storm like this is down south, they call it a hurricane and give it a category." Hope everyone is safely out or hunkered down.

The benchmark here in Portland is the infamous Columbus Day Storm back in the 60s. That one was well into the hurricane range at times.

The weather folks noted that the one up by Alaska was *way* worse. Including an *amazing* low pressure in the center. something like 941 millbars.

Personally, I could do without snow for a while, but I suspect I will have no say in the matter if/when it decides to show up... it's not in the forecast for tonight, at least.

I have a shovel and an ice scraper and a pretty-well-stocked pantry, so I should be fine...

I hope everything works out for you with the con, and that your hip starts being nicer to you.

Well, the high temp was at 3am at about 65F...then the temp constantly fell throughout the day...wish it would at least snow with the colder weather though...

Slight chance of snow here tomorrow too. And, like you, I'm neither emotionally nor physically prepared for it. I'm walking on two feet (so at least I don't have to deal with ice/snow while on crutches!!), but I still don't trust the ankle, so I'm not ready to be walking on treacherous surfaces! Not. Not not not. Bleah.

I hope Windycon goes fabulously well for you and the pain settles at a bearable level. *hugs*

Good luck at the con. As for snow, as long as it does not trap me in NYC (or Atlanta, again, or in Seattle (3 weeks later)) when I am attempting to get to/from a convention, I can deal with it. (Then again, getting snowed in at a filk convention is a bit of fun. At least the music is really good!)

Nope. Not ready for it either. But I can get prepared -- stocking up food, getting a new knit cap, retrieving the ice scraper, etc.

Obligatory... ;-)

If I want snow I'll go to a ski resort. I'll grant that it's pretty but I hate hate hate having to drive in it.

Drive safe! Looking forward to seeing you there. I'm going there straight from my last day at work. I'm hoping for no snow. I like the Westin too, I just hope they organize the events a little better. Nothing quite like having to go from one end of the hotel to the other. There's also some decent places to eat nearby.

My membership card at Rock Bottom gives me $5 on Veterans Day. I'm not sure how I feel about using a special day for those who served as a promotional gimmick. At least they have good beer.

Not ready for snow yet either! I think the wind was setting my car alarm off yesterday, or something was and nothing seemed to be wrong. I like connecting these things with Winnie the Pooh though, it helps :). Safe and (relatively) comfortable travels!

What is this 'snow' of which you speak?

That never gets old for a Floridian!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad (born in Toronto, raised there and in Detroit, and happily Floridian since Nineteen Seventy Cough) gives me the same riff. "You guys love that stuff." I've started countering with, "Yeah, and you love hurricanes and $400 air-conditioner bills." This has had no effect on his gloating, but I feel better.

Packing and prep today, picking up Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim at Midnight.

Going to make a stop at Millenium Park tomorrow morning on the way to the con, since I was invited to this: http://www.whoisamy.com/mainFrame.php?p=bol . If anyone wants to come there, too, I'm sure that they'd be welcome...the first three meet-ups changed some peoples' lives, I hear. Amy's neat.

Looking forward to seeing you--with any luck, they won't have amplified filk next door to panels this year.
