Tomorrow marks the release of two genre biggies: the final movie in the Harry Potter series on DVD and Blu-Ray, and the newest game in Bethesda's celebrated Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim. I'll pick up the movie later, but -- even t hough I will not be able to so much as install it before I get back from WindyCon -- I will have my copy of Skyrim tomorrow. Oh, yes, I will.

(The really nice thing is, I found a Best Buy gift card I hadn't turned in yet. Yay, massive instant discount!)

I am still so damn sore on my left side; the flexeril doesn't seem to be doing much, although I did sleep well last night. We'll see how it goes. But I should be good to drive out and sing, so that's the plan.

Oh, and, we finally got our first taste of snow out here. Not much, but definitely snow.

What's your weekend look like?

What's your weekend look like?

Like it's three days long. :-)

(No plans at the moment, and honestly, I think I need the rest)

Friday morning I have a chiro adjustment first thing. Afternoon, late lunch with friend, then a booksigning with Peter Yarrow. If anyone would like me to pick them up a signed copy of the new Puff the Magic Dragon pop-up book, comment and be ready to send me some funds.

Saturday evening I'll be at a concert. Guy Davis. I'm a fan of his music and storytelling. Not much going on Sunday so maybe I'll get some packing done for my trip to Toronto next week. I'll be hearing Toyboat & seeing a bunch of my Canadian friends, and having me some fun.

Orycon. Just got home from running a sword I'm trying to sell out to a friend who sells blades and stuff and has a table at the con (comment from friend: I didn't expect it to be that big. Or heavy.)

Be using public transit to get back and forth to the con all three days. Hope I can get the stuff I want and stay inside my budget.

The Borgamy will be at WindyCon, both Tom and Barb have panels at various times. I'll be riding herd on Lily a lot of the time, but if you need help moving stuff, or fetching stuff you left back in the room, etc -- just say the word. You've got my phone number.

I'll be at Windycon looking forward to your concert. I'm still putting together my kit. I have to update my filk album list so I won't buy the same one twice.

What I like about Windy is that the panels don't start until 10. That gives me enough time to buy cat food on the way there and still sleep in a little bit on Saturday.

After the con, I update my resume and start sending it out.

Really wishing we could be at Windycon... it's literally 15 minutes away, but neither of us got our requests for days off in early enough. Le sigh...

Unfortunately we just don't have the budget to make it this year, which is probably good since I need to finish up some papers for my classes.

One of my sweeties is going to be there in the dealer's room (Terraflora Designs) and another is running some games (Dragon Storm), so I'll be there in spirit. Think of me while you're all off having a good time and I'm writing yet another paper on Web Security or Software Lifecycle Development!

I'll be at work for one day, playtesting a major MMO the rest of it, and wishing I was there.

Have fun at Windycon. I will be doing some projects... Finishing a computer, mailing a DOA drive back for replacement, finalizing the filk track schedule for Philcon (next week). (My part is done, I am just waiting to see if what I programmed causes conflicts for others.) Likely convert a few tapes from various archives to digital. (I know I found some recordings of you that are going to be heading your way.)

Recording 9-noon today, then re-doing the two hours of mixing work I did on the last song only to discover when I restarted Reaper that those files were "not understood."

I *did* track down the Reaper problem--the files had all been saved with the same name for some reason: once I renamed them they could be re-imported and actually *stay* when I quit and restarted Reaper. Alas, I have to re-do all the finicky sliding-beats-around work I did the day before yesterday. Maybe I'll be faster and better this time.

And all this happened right as I downloaded the new version of Reaper, which I thought for a while was causing the problems so I redownloaded and reverted to the old version of Reaper. And now I suspect that was unnecessary but I'm feeling superstitious about going back to version 4.10.

I did accomplish a lot of good arranging and songbuilding in the last couple of days (which was not precisely what I needed to practice, with recording coming up this morning but when a harmony comes knocking I hate to say no.) So part of the weekend activities will be entering that into sheet music.

And then more mixing, so I have a good version of The King's Lute I can send to Peter and he can see if he can play his dulcimer to it.

And I'd like to go into Knoxville and see if bluetooth keyboards really will pair with my (slightly elderly) iPod touch now. Because if they will, I know what is going on my Christmas wish list :-)

Oh, and I have an appointment to get my eyes tested and order new glasses (good-bye, permanent smudge!) this afternoon.

Oh, ack; gotta run. I need to change my mandolin strings.

You're probably doing this, but I'll say it out loud: I find it's a great idea to have a separate folder for each project and to save copies of all the media with the project file. And, yay! Goodbye permanent smudge indeed!

I do have the separate folders thing going. I still get confused sometimes, but it happens less often.

Skyrim is on our list! We are hitting a winter market today (after a job interview for me *crosses fingers*) that is full of local craftsmen. I am hoping to get Christmas shopping done. Then swinging by Smoke N Hot for some nummy bbq.

We had talked about attending a PetExpo in Atlanta tomorrow, but with the hubby not able to use his left arm for much and my back giving me hate mail, we will probably stay home and cuddle puppies and figure out how to heat this pit we live in.

Most of the weekend will be spent either in LoTRO or Skyrim =p 3 people 3 comptuers 1 room, yeah we have fun.

Last night was Heather Dale's house concert, and before that I took Heather and Ben out to dinner.

I'll be heading over to Zingerman's Bakehouse later this morning. It's one of those rare weekends when they're making their amazing raisin pumpernickel. We have somewhat different must-haves. :)

Tomorrow, Allen and family are coming in and having lunch with us before we all head over to a party. Sunday is for a bit of laundry and housecleaning, and catching up on two weeks' worth of comics and some of what's piled up on the DVR.

So, overall, it looks like a really, really good weekend.

I'm truly sorry I missed Heather & Ben, but between the hip and getting ready for Windy there was just no way. Please say hi to Allen & co for me, and maybe we can finally do that lunch soon.

What kind of music does Dale play? She's having a concert at Windy and I am planning to go to it but I'd like to have an idea what to expect (ie will it be all instrumentals or is there a focus on Old World hymns or maybe she does comedy rap with a harp).

Heather is very much in the Celtic tradition. Her brand-new album, "Fairytale", is mostly drawn from what you'd expect, with song titles including "Golgotha", "Pied Piper", "The Hut of Baba Yaga", and "The Morrigan". She's also done two albums based on stories of King Arthur and those surrounding him. And several other albums.

Heather does vocals, keyboard, bodhran, and various tin whistles, while Ben plays guitar (both acoustic and electric) and other instruments in that range. You can hear samples here.

OK two minute vent about work. It's my last day here and I want everything I do to be as tight as possible. I want them to remember me well and consider bringing me back if there's work. Unfortunately the code fixes I've been getting these past few days have been contradicting each other. One person says "when you click on this link, we want these 5 items to be pre-selected on the next page" then later someone else says "why are these 5 items pre-selected when I click this link? It should only be this one item pre-selected" ARUGH!

Nope. One is the boss so I know who gets priority. Just wish the other person would have cleared the changes first. Seems like half the changes are undoing earlier things and the other half is explaining that the code is working properly, it's the data in the database that needs to be changed.
