Did anyone else see...?

I was wondering what people thought about the TV version of A Wrinkle in Time that was on earlier this week. I thought that three hours was too long for a TV movie for kids on a school night, but I'm more interested in the adult fan reaction. It was a very important book in my early life (before I was wary enough to avoid allegory), and I think its message about the dangers of conformity is relevant today. But did it come across? I'm not sure.

Saw it. Mostly enjoyed it, although critiques of its special effects are more or less on target.

I liked that the cast wasn't all Hollywood pretties.

One irritation, as pointed out to me: where are Meg's glasses? Not having them makes Mrs. Who's specs no more than deus ex machina rather than a clever means of providing support from the ladies.

Looking forward to seeing it sans commercials at some point, though.

Good point about Meg's glasses. And while I liked the actor playing Meg very much, I think her anger and rage were too internalized, not obvious enough, before and during the final conflict scene. And Aunt Beast was a bit too Chewbacca-like. But these are quibbles. I'm mainly glad that a new batch of kids got exposed to it--though the network didn't seem to advertise it much.

I didn't pick it up until the last hour, since I hadn't seen any promos for it. I spent most of that time yelling, "No, No, That's NOT What Happens!"

I don't know if the first two hours would have inoculated me.

And IT just Did Not Work. :-)

There really are times I'm glad I simply don't watch TV anymore. I'm curious about AWIT, but for whatever reason I am not one of the kids who grew up loving it -- never read more than half of it, and I don't have the huge emotional attachment that I do with, say, LOTR or Dune.
