So, I've got this domain.

Goggleheads.com is currently just a placeholder page. My intention is to have it be a Mad Science portal. Specifically (in WordPress terms), I'm thinking such categories as:
  • New Discoveries
  • Reanimation
  • Zombies (different from Reanimation in that they're mindless and monstrous, at least that's what I'm telling myself)
  • Modes of Transportation
  • Technology
  • Cthulhu Mythos
  • Ancient Civilizations
  • The Cosmos
  • Art
  • Music
  • Gaming
  • Personalities
Now, I could be completely full of it on these. So I'd like your help and advice. The general decor will likely be steampunk (although I'm putting it into WordPress specifically so I can change it at a moment's notice), but steampunk is only part of what I'm thinking. What works for you guys? If you can, keep it to a dozen categories or less. Moreover, what do you think would be a good general direction for the site? Remember that I have to maintain it while writing music and going to cons. I also may add a couple of administrators, or allow members to post, or somethin'. Dunno yet. That's why I'm asking.

Thanks.

A science lab type theme would work nicely. Love the idea - please let us know if/when you make an RSS feed!

As a counterpoint to steampunk, how about retro-future, or diesel punk, like this:

Specs for a site named Goggleheads.com ...

... and no mention whatever of Rocket J. Squirrel?

Observe:

http://www.tvacres.com/images/rocky_squirrel.jpg

Goggles. On the head.

Since 1959.

Granted, Rocky would be one of those dedicated to thwarting your average Mad, but...

I'm good with a section on famous aviators, e.g., Rocket J. Squirrel, Amelia Earhart, Wrongway Feldman, Caractacus Potts (whol'll probably have his own section anyway), Hathaway Brown, that sort of thing.

Why can't anyone ever be mad in a good way?

Honestly, I am sick and tired of how the media always villifies the criminally insane.

And why is it always mad SCIENTISTS? I'd like to see a story about a mad priest who's doing unnatural things.

I'm fond of low-tech Rube Goldberg toys that enhance one's lifestyle. Simple solutions for complicated times might be a fun page!

A page on cookery might also be of use?
The old hacks of plugging in the hot dog, or ironing the grilled cheese, the newer bacon alarm clock, car engine cookery and so on, then of course the even lower tech tools such as solar cookers, the thematic meals they might produce could be a whole lot of fun for those of us so inclined.

Hmmmmm... a Rube Goldberg song... Starts out simple, just the voice singing something like "You push the marble and it rolls into the cup" then every time something triggers something else a new instrument is added to the song so towards the end you have 35 instruments and numerous sound effects (like the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band song Intro, but with a mad scientist twist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Bxv_HLwT7U )

I'm keen on your idea... how can I help?

You know me, I'm all over the retro-tech

I do love debating and debunking the anti-science and woo-woo stuff.

And of course all sorts of keen experiments to do at other people's houses.. and some you can do at home.

I'd like a place where users could show off stories, pix, or videos he or she made that are related to the theme of the page. The admin, of course, would have the final say on what gets posted.

So it will be a site devoted to showcasing actual events and discoveries I take it, or are you going to have each page be related to some of your songs?

I would like to see a links page for important Mad Scientist supplies. Edmond's Scientific is the obvious go-to, but where to obtain a lab coat in a 50-long? Actual working goggles, not overpriced steampunk props?

I'm seeing... the mad science wiki.

The TV shows, the movies, the webcomics, the comic books, the links to tvtropes, the Diet Coke and Mentos videos, the robots, the trebuchets, the causuality paradoxes, the suggestions on how to win the Darwin Award, the crazee chemistry demos, the how-to-destroy-the-universe-with-items-commonly-found-around-the-house symposium...

Will there be a podcast for this site? I never really got into pod casts mostly because I couldn't find one I liked. There was a Transformers one I listened to a few years ago but I lost interest.
