I don't believe I've mentioned this one yet. I spoke with Phil Foglio the other week, and, if everything goes right, and Phil and Kaja approve it, I might have something unparalleled for next MarCon. Four words:

Girl Genius: The Musical.

Okay, a few more words. Girl Genius: The Musical (changed almost instantly from Girl Genius In Concert, which confused the heck out of everybody, as you can see below) is the prospective name of a two-CD set, adapting the first ten issues of the comic book. The style is intended to echo Sweeney Todd In Concert or Moby Dick: The Musical (Complete Recording), in that it will have the entire script. I've already got several songs partly done, and I hope to have a complete rough draft by the end of September. If I get the go-ahead, I'll likely arrange like crazy throughout the rest of the year, and start recording in January.

Four words in response, from those who can't be at MarCon:

Please make a CD.

Please don't pinch me...if it's a dream, I don't want to wake up!

Sounds utterly fantastic, though Marcon suddenly seems way far away. You WILL be posting updates on your progress, won't you?

I'm assuming/hoping that "the prospective name of a two-CD set" means that it will be available for those of us who can't make MarCon.

It is not intended to be a performance at MarCon. It's intended to be a retail product... and, I'm hoping, a damn good one. :) Given the noise I'm getting for The Last Hero On Earth, I'm flush with confidence, at least for the moment.

You and Phil Foglio.

Ho boy. That should be something to see--er, listen to.

Can we then hope for Fenton: the Graphic Novel? (Or has that already happened and I missed it?)

Hi. "Tom Smith" being such an uncommon name and all, I thought I'd ask you this cryptic question to see if you might be the Tom Smith I once knew and often think of fondly:

What goes into an, 'Oh, Tom, surprise me' Blizzard?

If you have no idea what the heck I'm talking about, I'll just be on my merry way, apologies offered, of course. :)

... While it sounds like something I might've sid in a fit of whatever, I don't recall ever saying or hearing anything like that. Nor was I ever an employee, or frequent customer, of Dairy Queen. Shrug.

If you were never a Dairy Queen employee, then you are not him. It was kind of you, however, to respond. Thank you. :)

I think I'll do that. Feel free to do the same 'round my place. You never know what I'll be up to.

Just in case you were wondering, Tom Smith put whatever he wanted into those Blizzards, and they were the best damn things ever. I imagine they probably harden arteries at 500 paces, as well.

As mentioned, I haff been vorking -- ahem, have been working on lyrics. Here's a tiny taste of that song (ain't nowhere near done yet):

Yo de hey, yo de ho, unt it's off to var vee goh!

Dey iz lotz uff people out dere vant to giff der Baron grief
Itz zo grating unt frustrating unt zo hart to find relief
He getz argumentz unt backtalk vrom all zhese shmott-guy fopz...
So he sents in da Jagers... den de bureaucrats with mops.

De Jagermonster life iss de only life to live
Vhen ve think of all de joy unt happiness ve give,
It bringss a little tear to effry Jagermonster eye...
Unt
Iff you ain't got a hankie, ve got vays to make you die!
Ooooh! Dat's harsh!
Yah, vell, he ain't gotta hankie!

In de goot ol' dayz, in de goot ol' dayz,
Vhe vould savor each bashin'-in skull,
Den de Heterodynes came to save de vorlt,
Unt a vorlt dat's been saved is dem dull.

Ve vas nicey-nice, ve vas gooty-goot,
Ve vas so frickin' bored -- got dot rright,
But Klaus Vulfenbach gave us shtuff to do,
Unt dot usually means a goot fight....

Sorry, but I simply will not do pre-orders until it's in the can & on the way to the duplicator. That worked extremely well for And They Say I've Got Talent, I suspect it's gonna work great for The Last Hero On Earth, and it'll work for Girl Genius.
