Hello? Am I Home?
Mar. 8th, 2006 07:01 amIs anyone else having trouble getting to my main page? I can FTP, but I can't seem to raise it on the web. No, I'm not trying to generate hits -- I geniunely can't get to the stupid page. Not in Firefox, not in IE, not in Opera.
Update: Okay, this is getting weird. All of you can get it, but I can't...? It doesn't seem to matter which browser I use, the firewall's properly configured, Adblock can be disabled or not...?
Dubya. Tee. Eff.
Update 2: Okay, obviously something is deeply wrong on my end. Fine. I was gonna begin the annual back-up in anticipation of the annual system purge (x2, now with laptop!) and I'll either nail this or just start over. (Have to try the laptop on this connection, and see if it's the connection or the desktop config....) Thanks, all.
Update 3: It's something on this machine. The laptop, using the WiFi, gets through just fine. (Although something's screwed up with Firefox on that one, so I'm gonna reinstall it anyway.) Time to go digging through the firewall config....
Update 4: Good news and bad news. I think I nailed it -- it's a plug-in, specifically the Adblock Filterset G that nukes a lot of Flash-based ads. The newest version, both on the desktop and the laptop, also nukes TSO. The problem is that I can't seem to uninstall or reconfigure it. I'll have to go digging, and right now I have errands to run, so it waits until this afternoon. Sigh. Friggin' tech.

Date: 2006-03-08 02:55 pm (UTC)You just solved a major problem I've been having going to varied sites (tv.com, and some others).
If you go to Tools/Extensions in your Firefox, you should see where the Adblock Filterset G is...at that point, it should allow you to remove it, and once you exit Firefox, and then go back in, you should be fine..I did this, then went to your site to test, and was able to see it.
Thank you. :-)

Date: 2006-03-08 03:06 pm (UTC)I CAN'T UNINSTALL IT.
Or, at least, uninstalling it has no effect.
Nuking it from the Adblock list has no effect.
Shutting off Adblock has no effect.
I'm gonna fuckin' scour Firefox from my computer(s) and start over. (I installed the newest filterset on the laptop, and now it, too, can't get to TSO.) Fucking bullshit. Not every goddamn Flash item is an ad, shitheads.
This has gotta be a stupid glitch, not an "undocumented feature".

Date: 2006-03-08 03:17 pm (UTC)Of course, I accidentally updated both adblocks...so, dunno if that had anything to do with it...
I searched for info on it, and couldn't find anything, I thought I'd seriously hosed my Firefox somehow, and just reinstalled over it..reinstalled flash, and still had nada.
And wow, I try to go looking for Info on how to uninstall, and ya beat me to it. I've got a friend who said "Oh yeah, I heard about that", looking as well.
