A Wish For Peace

I don't even begin to claim to understand the greivances on all sides -- on any sides. I know only three things:

• The issues have existed for a damn long time.
• They are not going to go away.
• There will only be peace if they want peace.

I fervently hope there will be a cease-fire soon. In the meantime, all of our friends in that part of the world: Please be careful.

People raised in a culture of endless hatred and violence, afraid of what would happen if they gave one or both of these things up. Classic issue of folks afraid to change. Unfortunately, continuation of this pattern is only going to result in perpetual war. I hope it ends, peacefully, and soon.

I'm not ashamed to say that I took my family and ran away from the north of Israel, where all the rockets fall (and one just knocked down a building an hour ago).
however, my wife's family is still there.

I, for one, applaud you, for placing your family's safety over a piece of land! I know that holy places are very important to people on both sides, but I tend to think in terms of my friends' and family's safety over ANY piece of real estate.
I still say we offer both sides free land in some of our millions of acres of national parks, to get some of these children away from this war zone.

My secondary concern is that the Idiot-In-Chief will try to spin this current round of unrest into an excuse to launch an American attack on Syria or Iran. And I wish I could make myself believe that that's just fearmongering and overreacting, but I can't anymore. In the interim, yes, I hope cooler and saner heads prevail, and quickly.
