Except for the joys of Chicago traffic, I had a very good time at To Be Continued, and I want to thank John Gilchrist, Rich Lukes, and especially con chair Bob Palmer for their hospitality and kindness.

It was also cool meeting Dean Haglund and Stephen Austin, and once again worshipping the exquisite Virginia Hey, and seeing Larry Smith and Sally Kobee and Ray Van Tilburg, however briefly, and of course hanging out with Kim Williams and her adorable granddaughter Jeneil, [livejournal.com profile] tigertoy, Jan of the Magic Fingers, Art Warneke (lotsa funny stuff), and of course Filk GOH Steve MacDonald.

My set on Saturday went pretty well, and at the "Can Filk Coexist With Dementia?" panel on Sunday (consensus: oh, sure, why not), I debuted preliminary recordings of two of the songs from The 24 Hour Project 2. Good reaction. The Saturday night filk was great, with one of those classic moments that those lucky enough to be there for will talk about for awhile:

[livejournal.com profile] lukeski did a damn near 15-minute piece called "Grease Wars", which is exactly what you fear it might be -- a retelling of Star Wars Episode 4 to the soundtrack of the movie Grease. Just as he was starting, three guys sauntered in -- dressed as an Tie Fighter pilot, an Imperial Stormtrooper, and Jango Fett. And they got into it -- as in, when Luke was lyrically describing Imperial atrocities, they gave each other thumbs-up; when Luke sang "Oh-whoah, those Je-eh-di Knights", they started dancing like the Pips ("Well-ah, well-ah, well-ah, HUH"). The medley is a hoot, and the guys in costume sent it way over the top, and it was a beautiful thing.

Next up: The big 'un. MarCon.

There are some excellent-looking small and serious films coming out this year. I'm betting Cinderella Man is pretty good; I have hopes for Dark Water and Skeleton Key.

But those aren't what we're jacked to see.

In case you missed 'em, there are new teaser trailers for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. Very, very promising.

And, some late-breaking news that I think might rock your world, so new it isn't even on the official site yet: In case you hadn't heard, those wacky Wachowski Bros. are making a movie of the graphic novel masterpiece V For Vendetta, by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Natalie Portman has already been cast as Evey; but the big new news is that the man behind the mask, who was originally supposed to be played by James Purefoy, is now to be voiced and bodied by... Hugo Frickin' Weaving. Happy happy joy, joy, happy happy joy joy....

Oh, and: Don't forget this.
