So Rep. Anthony Weiner did in fact Tweet a picture of his junk.

Or, as Jed Lewison put it in a follow-up thread to the one linked above:
The salient facts: A Congressman accidentally Tweeted a crotch shot to the whole wide world, then lied about it. The media hounded him for the truth, and he's admitted his personal failing. And now we get to figure out what the public policy implications of the whole affair ought to be. I don't know about you, but it makes me see Keynesian economics in a whole new light.

p.s.: We're still waiting for Sen. David Vitter's comments on today's news.
I think Rep. Weiner is an outspoken, passionate defender of liberal values. I think he's an idiot for taking a picture of his crotch and putting it online.

Most of all, I think the privatizing-Medicare bullshit Congress is trying to pull, the three wars we're in, the complete lack of job programs on the table, lack of health care, the climate crisis, and the fact that we've got some seriously damaged and deranged people getting ready to run for president next year are all way more important than Weiner's wiener.

But then, I'm a dirty effing hippie, and I'll never be a Very Serious Person. So hey.

It was a real frat boy thing to do. I thought he was smarter than that.

He's a politician. His brains are going to be overpowered by his arrogance. And yes, they're all like that.

But is he smart enough to do it deliberately, with careful timing, to better develop name recognition for later elections? Did somebody think voters would vaguely remember a familiar name, and forget the particular scandal involved?
Remember the approval ratings bump Clinton got for being a bit of a dog?
Yes, I know, all of it is perfectly predictable from idle stupidity, and the simple edge of Occam's Razor suggests that the arrogance is great enough to assume they'd get away with it, or various and sundry of his confreres *have* got away with worse in the past...

I commented elsewhere, but will just note that he's never seemed that liberal to me. Maybe I am still holding out for Bella Abzug.

I hope he doesn't resign. The primary season would be far less entertaining next year.

The worst thing about this (to me anyway) is that it lends an appearance of credibility to Andrew Breitbart. :(

Yep. The main reason I was skeptical is that Breitbart was flogging it, and if he said the Sun rises in the east, I'd want to be up at dawn with a compass.

Bingo. Now that lying gotcha artist has some "cred". We won't be able to get rid of him.

I call this "The Drudge Effect":
Trumpet every damn thing that you hear, and eventually SOMETHING will be accurate. Ride that modicum of credibility for as long as you can.

As I said on another thread, Andrew Breitbart totally looks like a blind pig

I was really a fan of some of his speeches & attacks on the Republicans, the Dems could use more pitbulls who aren't afraid to speak up.

I did find an online modeling profile for Ginger Lee http://www.modelinsider.com/3056 (nsfw but nothing hardcore), the woman he apparently intended the weiner pic to go to.

I can, looking at her pics, see how he might've let himself get sidetracked in to a proverbial "rich fantasy life" with her.

(Apologies for swiping you & ROb's song title there Tom, it just fit.)

Being in the position of power makes them feel invincible, immune to the consequences of their actions.

I think every public personality has to understand that, nowadays, NOTHING is private, especially if it's ever been on a cellphone. Honestly. He shouldn't have tweeted that photo. He also shouldn't have lied about it. But should he resign from Congress? When David Vitter resigns, maybe Weiner will too.

From what I've heard, he had intended to send the pic in an instant message, but posted it to Twitter by mistake.

Which makes this one of the most embarrassing copy-paste errors in some time.

Roger that. And as comedian Hal Sparks said a few days ago, "Do not send photos of your junk to anyone who hasn't already seen it in person."

Post useless without pics

It's usually not difficult to track this sort of thing down, the nature of the internet being what it is. But I'm having trouble finding it. If it's such a significant story, where is the source material?
