- I'll be watching GoT tonight.
- Korra, on Saturday, was frickin' amazing -- if The Avengers hadn't been so perfect, I'd be going on and on about it. This episode was pretty much all (a) sports and (b) relationships, and it was note-perfect, top to bottom, upending every cliche and moving the show along beautifully.
- And I still have to catch up with OUAT, but I hope to do that by Memorial Day Weekend.
Missing FKO, and Miscellania
Apr. 21st, 2012 09:43 amVarious and sundry:
- This weekend, a bunch of our friends are rocking out Mississauga, ONT at FilkOntario. Later today, we'll know the inductees for this year's Filk Hall Of Fame, and along the way there will be amazing music. I haven't been there in a couple of years, and I miss it. I'm hoping to get back next year. Meantime, hugs to everybody, and I hope you're having a blast.
- At this writing, the Ogre Kickstarter is less than $600 from the $250,000 stretch goal (which means Kickstarter donors will get the game a full month early).
- Two more sad music obits from yesterday: Levon Helm from The Band, and Greg Ham from Men At Work. I'm not even sure what to say about either of them (especially Mr. Helm, about whom we could go on for hours), except that this whole week has been one of hideous loss for the rock music world.
- I'm working on some music -- finally have the computer up and thrashing properly, with a lot less system bloat than I had before the HD self-destructed Monday -- and later today I'll get together with Anne and see The Hunger Games. Tomorrow, there's getting together with my sister and the kids, and Monday (after I download 'em) there will be The Legend of Korra, Game of Thrones, and Once Upon A Time.
- I also posted a new FuMP song yesterday:
Anne thinks I should remix it to make the vocals more prominent, and I'm beginning to agree with her.
I Wish To Marry Korra

CAN'T EFFING WAIT.
What upcoming shows and movies are you hot for? Yes, yes, The Avengers and The Hobbit.

Thank FSM For RiffTrax
Nov. 21st, 2010 09:14 amOh.
My.
GAWD.
Anne & I just watched The Last Airbender. Not the superb pseudo-anime series from Nickelodeon, ohhhh no no no no no. Nope, the M. Night Shame-On-You flick.
Thankfully, we watched it with a RiffTrax. M. Night sucked the movie dry of any soul, story, or character. And he really, really can't direct action scenes. (Which I recall worrying about when I first heard he was helming the project.)
What are you worst movie experiences of the past several years? Besides this, I'm pretty sure the top spots go to the Lou Ferrigno Sinbad movie and, of course, The Room.

The Most Talked-About Film Of The Summer
Jun. 30th, 2010 03:28 pmThe reviews are starting to come in for The Last Airbender.
So far, 00% positive.
And not merely uniformly bad reviews: uniformly hostile. As in, hilariously scathing. Roger Ebert says, "'The Last Airbender' is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that something should have gone right. Not here."
Truly, this movie could end up making money only on the MST3K/RiffTrax circuit. And it just might be the final nail in the coffin of the career of M. Night Shyamalan.
Anyone planning to see it? I'm pretty sure I've gotta have something waxed or extracted or somethin'.
ETA: Ooooooh, 7% positive. That is, 2 out of 28.

THE LAST AIRBENDER Super Bowl Spot
Feb. 5th, 2010 08:56 amI really, really don't know. There has been much made of how the background characters are mostly Asian, but the leads have been cast as non-Asian. There's the fact that I don't think M. Night has the chops (no pun intended) for a half-martial-arts action film. There's the fact that, in the first teaser, the Hero's Big Move was blowing out candles.
To me, the real clincher is how very dark the film seems. Not merely the photography; the tone has Heath Ledger running through my head, yelling Why so serious?
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a fantastic series, very serious when it has to be and very grim when it needs to be... but it's also filled with hope and humor and lots of bright, powerful emotion. And everything I've seen about this screams that it doesn't get that.
Thoughts?
